Do I get my own web address?
Yes. In NZ you can have a .co.nz or .net.nz address, in the UK a .co.uk, and in the USA a .com or .net. Other web addresses can be supplied on a case-by-case basis.

Do I get my own email address?
Yes. It will be whateveryouchoose@youraddress.com (or whatever domain name extension you choose). We use email forwarding for the address and point it to your existing email address – or we can teach you how to use Gmail for the address which we think is the best way to go.

I already own my web address. Can I use it?
Yes, you simply use web forwarding to point your address to the temporary address we give you while we’re building your site (username.mydnd.com)

How many pages do I get?
Our starter package is up to 5 pages.

Can I add more pages?
Yes. We have a ‘Save As’ and ‘New Page’ function, and we really don’t mind how many new pages you create, although we do make this subject to a fair use policy – in other words if you created a mega-site with 1,000s of pages we would deem that as not a small business site and place restrictions on it.

I don’t really have any photos. Can you supply any?
Yes, we are building a library of stock photos.

I’m not sure what words to use as the content for my site. Can you help?
Yes. We employ professional writers to create the copy, and also make it compliant with what Google’s computers expect to find in your website.

Can I add video to my site?
Yes. You simply upload video to YouTube and paste the embed code into your webpage, and the video will appear with a little cross below it to drag it into the correct position.

I don’t have a logo. Does one come with my site?
Yes. That’s part of the service.

Can I update my site myself?
Yes. Our software is based on drag’n’dropping with your mouse and is designed to be accessible for anyone with basic computer skills.

Is there any contract term?
No. We just setup a monthly recurring invoice for you and as long as you keep paying, we keep your site live. If you don’t want us any more just let us know and we’ll email you screenshots of your site and cancel your account.

Are there any other (hidden) costs?
No. When you pay us for our service, there are no other costs for maintaining your site online.

Can I link my website to Facebook?
Yes. And we can teach you how to build a page in Facebook for your business to link to, and from which to create a link to your actual website from.

Can I get site statistics reports?
That’s something we’re building into the next version of our software due out in a month or so.

How do you make my site Google-friendly?
We optimize your site for Google by putting the correct text in the page titles, page descriptions, page keywords and image descriptions.

What is twitter?
Twitter is like short public emails, and can be very useful for promoting your site. We can teach you how to use it effectively, and even manage Twitter campaigns on your behalf.

How does Google advertising work?
You can pay a market-driven rate to be at the top of page 1 of Google Search, and when people click your account is deducted for the rate you have agreed to pay. So if you has a daily budget of $10, and your click rate was $2, you would appear at the top of Google until 5 people had clicked through to your site. We can work out the costs for you and provide advice on whether this will be a profitable method of advertising. We can also manage a campaign for you if you don’t have time.

How does Facebook advertising work?
Facebook works the same as Google but isn’t quite as targetted, as people clicking on Facebook ads haven’t actually been searching for what the ad relates to – the ad has just appeared on their Facebook page because of the demographic you have chosen to target.

Can I sell products on my site?
Yes, it’s easy if you setup a PayPal account, create the items with pricing in there, and then use the links they provide as links from the Buy Now buttons on your website.

Can I capture sales leads from my site?
Yes. We can create forms asking whatever questions you like, and the system will email you when a site visitor submits the form.

Where are the websites hosted?
At the moment our server is in Los Angeles, but we’re setting one up in NZ, Australia and the UK to host sites there locally.

How long is it until I’m up and running?
At the moment our lead times from when you give us an order are 7-10 days to going live.

What are the steps involved in getting a website?

  • We take a short design brief from you
  • We email you a link to your sites look’n’feel
  • We to-and-fro a little bit until you’re 100% happy
  • You pay us the design & setup fee
  • We create your website from the mockup and enter all the content
  • When you’re 100% happy we connect the site to your public web address
  • You put whichever system in place you’ve chosen to pay our monthly subscription

How much of my time will the process take?
We know that you’re probably busy and have chosen us because we won’t take much of your time. You might have to commit half an hour over the 7-10 days lead time.

Why is there an ongoing subscription?

  • You’re essentially paying for the web address, hosting on our server, and the use of our software (we’re basically renting you the software rather than selling it to you. Some website software like Dreamweaver costs a lot of money up front.
  • We also provide you with ongoing tips and tricks for your online presence as part of the service, and in time will link you into a local and national directory which we will market ourselves.
  • The internet and websites (both in user interface and underlying code) are constantly evolving and fast. We keep evolving our software too, so by paying a subscription it means your website will stay up to date with what users expect, and you won’t get to a point where you have to have the whole thing re-written just to stay up to date.

Is there a phone number I can call for support?
Yes, during normal office hours in New Zealand you can call 04 299 9955. Our USA and UK phone numbers will be published soon.

What makes Woodnut sites different to the rest?

  • Woodnut sites are built using our own software, MyDND (short for my drag’n’drop). Unlike other sites, images, text and video can be moved around at the click of a mouse, and can be updated by people with little or no technical skill.
  • Our software is so efficient, it means we can build your site really quickly, and we pass those cost savings on to you.
  • Each site is a unique design unlike the template-based sites.
  • Our software constantly evolves and you get the new features without having to download anything, as it is provided to you via your browser.

How long has Woodnut been going?
We started building the software in the UK in 2008. In 2010 we ran a sales pilot in and got our first 50 happy customers. We came back to NZ in 2011 and launched there on the 27th Oct 2011.

I want a site that’s more involved than your starter site. Can you help?
Absolutely. Our engineers have the skills to build any kind of website or online software.

Are Woodnut sites W3C compliant?
V2.3 which is what we’re using now is around 90% W3C compliant and is recognized by Google. V3.0 will be 100% W3C compliant.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community that develops open standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web. Compliance means that webpages are built with code that meets these standards.

What language are the websites written in?
Javascript and PHP. Our software is built using these languages, and when editing is done graphically, our servers create the website as PHP pages.

What is you server uptime record?
During the last 12 months we have only been down for a total of 1 ½ hours and that was a hardware fault which was quickly fixed.

What happens to my site if your server goes down?
It won’t show up. However, we back up daily to a secondary server so it’s only possible for a small amount of data to be lost.
